Brussels’ Neighbors day

Brussels’ May events: Neighbors day - Immeubles en fĂȘte. Created in 2002 on the model of what was done in Paris, Immeubles en FĂȘte has now become another traditional May event in Brussels. It is a great success, perhaps because the event matches the Brussels ethos quite well: the idea is very simple, with neighbors organizing a “neighborhood party” for which they get some help and sponsoring from the municipalities and sponsors. From the official website’s description (in typical Bruxellois broken English ;)):

The purpose:
Create a dynamic of hospitality and reinforce proximity and solidarity amongst neighbours. Today, as we live in a multimedia society, it has become easier to talk to someone at the other side of the world, than to say hi to a neighbour. Solitude and indifference reign in the cities of today, so ” The European Neighbours’ Day ” offers a moment where getting to know new people is easy. [...] Over 235.000 Belgian citizens and 6.000.000 Europeans took part in the operation and gathered around a drink, to break the ice, to meet for the first time, to exceed the stage of indifference and a simple greeting…

Brussels Jazz Marathon

Brussels Jazz Marathon. Every year at the end of May Brussels hosts the Jazz Marathon music festival. This two day festival was created in 1995 and has been a success ever since. There are typically more than a hundred concerts held throughout the city, with the largest stage on the Grand Place. Most concerts are free, although some years the festival attracts big stars who charge a small fee. There are free buses throughout the night bringing you to the different places. This year the program includes 125 concerts (all free). The highlight will no doubt be Philip Catherine on Saturday 26 May at 5 pm on the Grand Place. Beginners’ web: how to use the trackback and pingback functions on Wordpress

Beginners’ web: how to use the trackback and pingback functions on Wordpress I never quite understood what all these trackback and pingback functions were about. I would see that some websites would have so-called “tracback” links, and that some post comments would look funny, with excerpts from other weblogs. That’s definitively a cool feature to know not only who is linking back to your site, but also to see an excerpt of what they are saying. The official Wordpress documentation was lacking, and I stumbled on this tutorial which explains in very simple terms how this feature works. Now don’t hesitate to trackback to us simply by linking to one of our posts - your comments will appear here like magic ;)
