Bahamas Hotels
The Bahamas is a group of 29 islands in the Atlantic Ocean just north of Cuba and to the southeast of the Florida coastline. The population of the islands is around 350,000, with 85% being African Ethnicity, 12% European and the rest Asian and Hispanic. The main religion is Baptism at 35% with the other Christian denominations featuring heavily. Being a mainly English-speaking nation, the Bahamas are very popular places for English and American tourists to visit. The highest point of the Islands, Mount Alvernia, is no more than 67m above sea level, meaning that the majority of the islands are flat and low lying.
Whilst the climate of the Bahamas is subtropical, the Gulf Stream causes difficulties in the summer with the regular occurrence of hurricanes and tropical storms. In recorded history the temperature has never hit below zero and can regularly reach temperatures well above 30 degrees centigrade. As a holiday destination, the Bahamas are well suited to couples that are after warm weather, beautiful beaches and the opportunities for watersports.
From the UK, the Bahamas are easily accessible with 3 major international airports on the islands. The Bahamas are also regularly visited by cruises, normally starting from the USA, which again is easily accessible by air from the UK. The time difference is GMT-5 so there should not be too much disruption in the form of jet lag to impact on your holiday.

Places to visit in Bahamas
Here are three suggestions for places to base your visit to the Bahamas
Nassau
Nassau is the capital city of the Bahamas and is situated on New Providence Island. It has long history dating back to the infamous pirate Blackbeard. It has a sheltered harbour, wonderful colonial mansions, cathedrals and 18th century fortresses, all excellently preserved and giving a delightful backdrop to your Bahamian holiday.
Paradise Island is connected to Nassau by two bridges, and is a tourist paradise indeed, developed for serving the needs of visitors. Nassaus Main Street - Bay Street is lined with pubs, shops and cafes - still with a historic feel, it also has all the amenities visitors like. Take a sail to Blue Lagoon Island - around a 20 minute sail from Nassau and see the dolphins, or go to Cable Beach with a two and a half mile stretch of beach amenities, including a Casino, resorts, nightclubs and a Golf Course.
Cat Island
Cat Island, named after the pirate Arthur Catt, is the sixth largest island, lying between the Island of Eleuthera and Long Island, and has one of the best Bahamanian climates, year round. It has beautiful pink unspoiled beaches, which are largely undeveloped. The beaches are secluded, like the island itself, and will be an ideal place for a honeymoon. There are a wide range of Cat Island resorts and plenty to do. Divers particularly like the coral reefs and shipwrecks, blue holes and dolphins. You can also go for a shark dive. There are 50 miles or so of hills and nature trails to enjoy - and Cat Island is also known for its annual festival of rake n scrape music!
Grand Bahama Island
On a holiday on Grand Bahama Island the visitor has a wide choice of activates on its historical trails and national parks - of all the islands in the Bahamas, this island has the second highest number of bird species. On Grand Bahama islands reef-protected shoreline the cays are covered with lovely white beaches, and there are so many opportunities for watersports, too. These include boating and sailing, all kinds of fishing, snorkelling and diving - the reefs make this a divers paradise, as well as a number of other nature-based activities for families. The nights can be filled with delicious food, music and culture, or if you like gaming - there are a number of options available. Then theres shopping, and sports - including golf - plus historical tours. Youre not going to be bored!
