China Hotels

If so large and diverse a nation can be said to have a characteristic, it is that China can somehow, across the entire spectrum of its lands and peoples and history, nevertheless in some mysterious way be defined as Chinese. There is a cohesion to its populations and a commitment to the land they live in and the rulers who govern them. China has one of the world’s oldest civilisations, stretching back thousands of years - indeed, it was home to earliest man. Over the centuries it has influenced wide areas of East Asia, and its dynasties and their powerful emperors and sovereigns have left evidence of art and culture dating back to the C17th BC. China today is a vast country stretching across 5,000km from east to west, with many ethnic groups and different beliefs, landscapes and climates.

It has cities, holiday destination coastlines, and every sort of landscape imaginable. The country is not one that looks outwards, to the sea, but tends to be inward looking, to its great river systems which have always enriched its lands and produced its agricultural wealth. It is a land where food has always been important to its cultures.

This is a heavily populated country of enormous contrasts, but nevertheless there are wild and lovely unspoiled places to explore and, of course, the greatest tourist attraction in the world: the Great Wall of China.
