The Larnaca (Larnaka) Region

A fusion of east and west both Christianity and Islam have holy sites in Larnaca with the mosque of Hala Sultan and the church of St Lazarus. The hilly region around Larnaca has a number of delightful villages. The picturesque village of Lefkara is worth visiting for its traditional houses - the narrow streets, stone houses and red roofs with central courtyards. See also the prehistoric archaeological site of Choirokoitia, a World Heritage site, and another jewel is the village of Kiti where the church of Angeloktisti, perched dramatically on a mountain peak, has some excellent Byzantine art of the Justinian period together with a 6th century mosaic of the Virgin and Child.

The Paphos (Pafos) Region

Favoured by many as a place to have a wedding or a honeymoon, Paphos, the land of Aphrodite, goddess of love, has a lot to offer. See her sanctuary at Kouklia or the grotto near Polis. The town of Paphos has a pleasant harbour and medieval fort, has not only history and wonderful views, but also is a lovely holiday resort. Try a wine tour of the villages stopping off at the interesting Chrysorrogiatissa monastery. You can also play golf, indulge in sea sports such as swimming, diving or sailing, or go to a water park. Walk or hike in the natural wilderness of the Akamas peninsula.

The Limassol (Lemesos) Region

Limmassol is the islands main port , centre of the wine industry and a holiday resort.
The city is between two major Cyprus archaeological sites built on the cliff tops overlooking the sea. These are the ancient city-kingdoms of Amathous and Kourion (parts of which hare now in the louver and MMOA in New York. The vineyards are on the slopes of the Toodos Mountains, populated by the wine villages, the Krassochoria. Visit also the Germasogeia dam and the Akrotiri Salt Lake the wetlands that are a haven for birds and wildlife.
