Czech Republic Hotels

Situated in Central Europe, the Czech Republic is a small land-locked country bordered by Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Poland. Its population of 10. 4 million speak mainly Czech. English is not widely spoken off the main tourist trail. The continental climate is divided into four seasons; summers tend to be sunny and quite hot, spring and autumn mild but changeable and the winters are cold.

June is a good month to visit as it's not too hot and is less busy than July and August. Over many centuries people from all over Europe settled in this region creating a rich and diverse cultural heritage which is evident in the many architectural gems to be found in the country; ancient fortresses, fascinating Medieval villages and towns and 12 UNESCO heritage sights. It also has plenty of mountains and national parks for the outdoor enthusiast to enjoy.

Many tourists visit on a city break, with the hundred-spired city of Prague as the number one destination, although there are plenty of other cities worth a visit. Brno is a quieter city than the capital and has a fabulous castle and museum and Pilsen and Ceske Budejovice in west and south Bohemia are renowned for their world famous beers. Not many people realise that the Czech Republic has some fantastic ski resorts.

The best equipped ski stations are in the Giant Mountains in north-east Bohemia. Ski holidays in this region are moderately priced. In the summer the region is great for hiking and cycling.

Flights to Prague from the UK take about 2 hours. For an added sense of adventure it's possible to drive or take the train from London using the Eurostar and the Cologne-Prague City Night Line Sleeper.
