The country of Fiji is located in the South Pacific Ocean, approximately 10129 miles from the United Kingdom when flying from London to Fiji’s capital, Suva. There are approximately 332 islands although only around 110 of these are actually inhabited. Surrounding countries are Hawaii and New Zealand where Fiji is situated approximately two-thirds in between. There are nine groups of islands in Fiji, the two main islands are Vanua Levu and Viti Levu which is where you will find the country’s capital, Suva, which is also is the largest city. The climate is tropical and is warm virtually all year round; it is slightly cooler during May and October but still has an average temperate of 22°C.
The varied and stunning coral reefs, volcanic mountains and beautiful warm waters are just a few reasons that tourists love to visit Fiji. Tourism is a huge part of the country’s industry with many visitors travelling to the Denarau and Nadi islands for their holiday destination. The country has a population of approximately 854,000.
The main languages spoken are Fijian, Hindi and English which is one of the official languages. The rich culture of Fiji is traditional in Chinese, Indian and also European and is very active and alive with so much to see and do.

Places to visit in Fiji
Here are three suggestions for places to base your visit to Fiji
The Coral Coast of Viti Levu
On Viti Levus southern coast, there is just so much to do - adventure and activity - or just playing and chilling; its your choice. This is a well known place for Scuba diving on the coral reef, for both hard and soft corals and a huge selection of fantastic tropical fish and marine life such as turtles and rays. Or take and adventure tour up the Sigatoka Valley and see the remains of the cannibal oven, or the pottery village of Lawai. For a change try a day Spa and take a traditional or modern therapy treatment. Visit the Heritage site of the Sigatoka Sand Dunes where the shifting sands are revealing evidence of Fijis ancient civilisations.
Savusavu and Vanua Levu
Vanua Levu is the second largest island of Fiji, and Savusavu is one of the fastest growing towns and an increasingly popular tourist destination. It is small and quite quaint; a small town feel but quite lively. The landscape is scenic with rainforests, bays and coconut groves. Savusavu was a caldera and has lots of geothermal activity with hot springs and steam along the waters edge. Tourists also come to dive on the coral reefs and many come for bird-watching or hiking - the rare silktail is only found on this peninsula and one other place. Visit Dakuniba village where you can see petrogliphs on boulders in the creek bed. Travel down the scenic Hibiscus Highway from Savusavu to Darigala passing the copra growing estates, forests and colonial houses.
Tha Nadi Region
This region is such a good place to tour from - you can take a flight over the beautiful Mamanuca Islands, or the Nausori Highlands inland from Nadi. Island hop to Mamanuca Island or smaller island by boat - go parasailing, jet skiing, ride a banana boat, and look at the coral through the glass bottomed boat. From the local area try treks/visits to the Koroyanitu National Park, Wailoaloa Beach, the Sabeto Hot springs or the Navala Historic Village and much more! How long have you got?
