Germany is around 600 miles from the UK, by air. The population of around eighty two million makes if the fourteenth largest populated country on the globe. Germany is bordered by Denmark to the north, Austria and Switzerland to the south, Poland and the Czech Republic to the east and France, Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands to the west. Berlin is a thriving capital city where it is still possible to “Walk the Wall” – or what’s left of it and visit the “Gate of Peace” – a scene of celebration when the original wall came down in 1989. For the most part, Germany’s climate is temperate – winters are mild, summers a little cool.

It’s warmer in eastern Germany during the summer. Apart from offering around one thousand five hundred different varieties of pork sausage, there is a thriving wine culture. You can visit the vineyards along the famous River Rhine with some of the oldest dating back to the Roman era.

Germany is the eighth largest wine-producer in the world – most of it is white. Then there’s famous German Beer, the choice is yours … While on holiday in Germany, you can enjoy concerts and amazing music wherever you turn. Composers Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Handel and Richard Strauss were German and there is a strong musical tradition.
