Ghana Hotels

Ghana is a country in West Africa with a coastline on the Gulf of Guinea. Archaeological evidence shows that Ghana has been occupied since early times and by various ethnic groups. In the 15th century, the Portuguese arrived at Ghana in search of gold and established several fortified cities along the coast. The Portuguese were later to be followed by the Dutch and English amongst others, all in search of the mineral wealth that the country had to offer by its position on the Gold Coast. Reminders of Ghana’s colonial past can still be seen in the castles and other fortifications along the coast.

Modern day Ghana is split into 10 administrative districts and has Accra as its capital which is a city of around four million inhabitants. The country is relatively affluent for the region and still relies on its mineral wealth and other exports such as cocoa for its economy. Ghana’s position close to the equator means a warm climate and only two main seasons (wet and dry.

) Southern Ghana is dominated by forests of mahogany and ebony and plenty of diverse flora and fauna. Whilst many languages and dialects are spoken in Ghana, English is the official language. Visitors will find a country with a rich and diverse culture offering many festivals and sporting events.
