Bordered by Switzerland, France, Austria and Slovenia along the picturesque Alps, Italy also encompasses the Italian Peninsula, Sardinia and Sicily, along with a fair few smaller islands in the Med. Great Art and memories of the Renaissance abound at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence and the capital Rome. Don’t miss a trip to the latter to see the amazing Colosseum, Forum, Trevi Fountain and Pantheon. The romance of Venice and its Gondolas in the north is a must.

There’s also Naples and the Amalfi Coast to explore, the ancient city of Pompeii with its extraordinary exhibits of human tragedy and the extraordinary Vesuvius Volcano to visit. Italian food is amazing – not all Pizza, pasts and Pesto! Every street corner offers a mouth-watering array of dishes in inviting, reasonably priced restaurants.
