Lebanon Hotels

In Western Asia sits the country of Lebanon, situated on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea and bordered by Syria and Israel. Due to its location with the Arabian lands to the east and the Mediterranean Sea to the west, the country has a wide and varied history, leaving behind a diverse population and cultural identity. 95% of the 4. 5 million population is Arab with the main language being Arabic. The country of Lebanon is mountainous, except the area around the coastline.

The climate is decidedly Mediterranean, with hot humid summers and cool and rainy winters. In the mountainous regions it is common for the winter periods to see heavy snow. Over the years, Lebanon has not been considered an obvious tourist destination, however since 2008 the country has spent a lot of time and effort in rebuilding the infrastructure around the tourist sectors of the country.

As a result of this, Beirut was voted the world’s number one destination by the New York Times in 2009. It is a great place to visit to see a mosaic of cultural diversity, where East meets West it brings a unique look and feel to the architecture and religions. With the first known inhabitants to be around 7000 years ago, the country also has a rich archaeological history, which is a big pull for tourists as there are many archaeological sites that have been excavated and are available for visiting.

Lebanon also has many World Heritage Sites, from historical sites to forests. There are daily flights from Heathrow to Beirut available from different airlines with the flights taking around 5 hours. Before travelling it is recommended to check the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website for updates on terrorism.
