Lithuania Hotels
In Northern Europe, on the shore of the Baltic Sea is Lithuania, bordered by Lativa, Belarus, Poland and Kaliningrad. At 25,000 square miles in size, it is home to around 3. 3 million Lithuanians whose official language is Lithuanian. The landscape of Lithuania has been shaped over the years by glaciers that have left moraines with the highest point being 294 meters. This landscape is also home to many lakes and interspersed forests.
Being situated in Northern Europe, the climate in Lithuania is variable, with winters sometimes dropping to -20 degrees centigrade and summers reaching up to 30 degrees centigrade. It has been known for the winter temperature to drop to -45 degrees centigrade. Getting to Lithuania is simple, many of the London airports have flights that take you direct to Lithuania and you can be there in up to 3.
5 hours from around £140. Around 3 million people visit Lithuania each year and the picture postcard towns and villages, with pretty buildings and old cobbled streets, draw them. As a past soviet republic the architecture is distinctly different to most other European countries and makes for interesting visits.
Another reason to visit the country is the Curonian Split, Palanga has white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, perfect for those warm summer days.

Places to visit in Lithuania
Here are three suggestions for places to base you visit to Lithuania
Vilnius
Vilnius is the Lithuanian capital and a delightful mix of influences come together in this interesting European city with architecture from periods from 15th to the 18th centuries. Vilnius Old Town is on the World Heritage list because of the wonderful collection of Baroque monuments outside Rome itself. The Vilnius skyline is a mixture of Gothic and Baroque spires, domes of the Orthodox churches and crosses of the Catholic churches. The Old Town is a maze of narrow, winding cobbled streets and a cornucopia of architectural treasures, café culture and vibrant arts scene. Just the place for a city break! To begin with, that is.
Palanga, the coastal resort
Palanga is the most popular costal resort in Lithuania with white sandy beaches and dunes backed by pine forests. Dead in winter but a lively - and we mean lively- beach resort in summer. The Lithuanians and folks from around Europe who join them in the summer really like to party! Despite this, Palanga does keep its traditional charm with its wooden houses, bicycles and pedal-powered taxis.
Lithuanias countryside
The crystal lakes, rolling hills and lush forests of the Lithuanian countryside are pleasurable and relaxing to visit. Take a trip to eastern Lithuania to the Aukstaita National Park and its deep forests and blue lakes with its elk, deer and wild boar, and visit the Ginucai water mill and old wooden church in Palushe built without nails. Or check out the culture and scenery at Samogita National Park - around Lake Plateliai see the wooden farm buildings of the 19th and early 20th century, and the wayside crosses and shrines. Dont forget your camera.
