Places to visit in Maldives
Here are three suggestions for places or reasons to base you visit to the Maldives
Male - the capital
You will want to start at least in Male, the capital; one of the smallest capitals is the world and home to one third of the countrys population. It has skyscrapers and paved roads, but no beach as seawalls enclose it. The city is green and pleasant with trees shading the residential areas. The Islamic Centre is the most impressive building dominating the skyline, with its great golden dome, and signifying the importance of Islam. Huskuru Miskiiy is a 17th century mosque, clad in coral carving and surrounded by a cemetery with carved headstones. See also the Mulee Aage, the Sultans Palace, and the National Museum. Shopping in Male is a delight; buy clothes, perfumes, jewellery and souvenirs.
Honeymooners Paradise
The soft white sand, swaying palm trees and crystal clear waters give a perfect ambiance for a romantic holiday with your partner, and it is obvious why the Maldives are such a favourite destination for newlyweds. Perhaps the North-Ari Atoll could be perfect for your honeymoon - it is the most developed tourist area and about 45 km west of Male atoll, with about 18 inhabited islands. You will have choices between Beach Bungalows or Beach Villas in most resorts and they give privacy and a romantic setting for you and your partner at this special time. You could also spend a day on an uninhabited island - and you can just snorkel, sunbathe or have a romantic picnic lunch.
A family holiday in the Maldives
The beautiful white-sand beaches are so attractive, but more than this the shallow lagoons mean that the Maldives beaches are totally safe for children to take a dip or paddle in. As well as that there are a number of activities to delight children. Most resorts have excellent facilities for children - such as childrens clubs and pools- and may offer tennis or swimming lessons and many other activities. Or you can take the family on an inter-island tour for amazing views and a cultural experience. The coral islands are just a perfect setting for an adventure tour.
