Netherlands Hotels

With a population of almost seventeen million people, the Netherlands borders the North Sea, has Belgium at its south, Germany to the east and is part of continental Europe. The Netherlands are nearly always known as Holland and the language spoken is Dutch. It is not a large country, but stretches some 16,033 square miles. The capital of the Netherlands (Holland) is Amsterdam, a thriving city of bicycles and canals. Explore Amsterdam’s great shops, food and interesting areas.

All visitors there should take a trip aboard a canal boat to explore some of the 165 different canals dating back to the 17th century. In Amsterdam you can see great works of art at the Rijksmuseum, eat raw herring, take a sneaky peak at the Red Light District and visit the hiding place of Ann Frank during the Second World War. It’s the greatest flower show on earth! It all begins in mid March with the crocus, daffodils and continues on with fruit trees and lilac blossom. While in this small country you’ll also be tempted by Gouda cheese, Delft pottery and the seat of the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

Here are three suggestions for places to base your visit to the Netherlands

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is one of the must-see destinations in Europe - not just because of the famous 17 century canals, but also the wonderful traditional and modern architecture and amazing museums. Take a Canal bus to get around to major sites and hear the commentary for visitors, you must see the Rijkmuseum and the paintings by Rembrandt (the huge "Night Watch" will leave you speechless) among other treasures. Visits also the Rembrandt House museum, the Anne Frank House and the diamond factories. Enjoy the beer and the nightlife!

Rotterdam

Very different from other cities in Holland it is situated on the Maas River and is one of the worlds biggest ports. Wonderful architecture, lively culture, and many attractions as well as good food. You must see the Cubs-houses (Kijk-Kubus) designed by Pirt Blom, visit the Netherlands Architecture Institute and take a Spido cruise, check out the exhibitions at the Kunsthal, and take the children (big children as well) to the Railz Miniworld the largest indoor model railway layout of Holland.

Noord-Holland

Just what we imagine Holland to be like - high dikes protecting polders where cattle are grazing, historic lifting bridges and outstanding architecture. Culturally rich with preserved traditional industries the coastal region has a lot of peace and quiet and clean beaches, and the fishing ports of Volendam, Muiden and Medemblik echo the time when the Isselmeer was the Zuiderzee - visit the outdoor Zuiderzeemuseum by boat and explore the historic past.
