Nigeria Hotels

Nigeria in equatorial West Africa has a coastline on the Gulf of Guinea and is the most populated of all the African countries. Its economy is largely reliant on its oil businesses. Archaeological evidence shows that Nigeria has been inhabited since prehistoric times. In more recent times the country was under the control of various European nations, including the United Kingdom from whom it gained independence in 1960. English remains the official language of Nigeria.

Although the coastal city of Lagos is the largest in Nigeria, it is no longer the capital as that title is applied to the much smaller city of Abuja. Travellers to Nigeria will need to obtain a visa prior to departure. These are available from any Nigerian Embassy.

There are four international airports; Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt. Driving whilst in Nigeria is not advisable as the traffic is inclined to be a little chaotic and the country has its own set of rules and quite poorly maintained roads. When exchanging money, stick to banks and ATMs as there are many fake dollar bills around.

Haggling for purchases is the norm and is expected, particularly in the markets. Alcohol, particularly beer, is readily available other than in the Northern States which have adopted Sharia (Islamic) Law.
