Peru Hotels
The country of Peru is located in South America, in the West and is approximately 6,000 miles from the United Kingdom. Depending on which part of Peru you are visiting, flight times can be anything between 11 and 13 hours from London for example. Countries that surround Peru are Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Chile and Bolivia. Peru faces the South Pacific Ocean and is part set over the beautiful mountain range of the Andes. The Amazon Rainforest occupies approximately 60% of the country.
The country’s population is approximately 29. 4 million and is multi-ethnic. The main language is Spanish although there are other native languages as well as Quechua and Aymara.
Some English is spoken in the very popular tourist areas. The diverse and spectacular scenic beauty of Peru is what attracts many visitors to this country and is therefore a popular country to visit for sightseeing, especially because of its extensive Amazon Rainforest and the beautiful Andes mountain range. It is also rich in tradition and culture with its fine cuisine, art, music and literature.
Lima is one of Peru’s major cities as well as being the capital of the country. Other major cities are Cusco, Arequipa, Chiclayo to name a few. There are two main seasons in Peru; simply dry and wet! The peak tourist season is between the months of June and August and is also the dry season.
Between December through to March is the wet season. Obviously the climate in this country varies depending on which region you are visiting and the higher you travel in altitude, the cooler it is. If you are travelling to the Andes, the daily temperatures can often fall below 10°C and fall below freezing during the nighttime.
Obviously, Peru’s Amazon jungle climate is tropical.

Places to visit in Peru
Here are three suggestions for places to base your visit to Peru
The Unexplored North
This area is only slowly opening up to tourism, which is a pity because there is so much interesting stuff to see. Those interested in history can see a whole range of
Peruvian history in this area. Start in Trujillo with its beautiful colonial mansions and then visit the Pre-Inca Chimu city complex of Chan Chan - the largest city in Peru at
that time. Near Trujillo are the Temples of the Sun and Moon, built in around 500 AD by the Moche culture these 130 ft tall pyramids are probably to largest adobe structures
in the Americas. If you travel further north you can stay in Chiclayo and visit the site where the remains of the Lord of Sipan were found with its splendid exhibits, and see
the 26 pre-Columbian pyramids of Tucume.
Lima-Cuzco and Machu Picchu
Lima itself is well worth a visit, and mixture of the colonial and the modern, with some elegant places to visit. Cuzco, the capital of the Incas, is a flight away, at a high
altitude - take some time to acclimatize and see the museums. Visit the ruins, which surround this Inca capital: the Sacsayhuaman Fortress, the rock sanctuary of Kenko with
its altar like a puma, and the red fortress of Puca Pucara. Visit also the Urubamba, the Sacred Valley of the Inca. There are different ways to travel from this area to Machu
Picchu, and many walkers like to follow the four-day or so Inca Trail starting at Chilca following wonderful terrain and Inca sites, to Intipunku "Gate of the Sun" , near the
first site of the amazing archaeological complex of Machu Picchu. Youll want to stay and see all the marvels and perhaps stay in Aquas Calientes and take the train back to
Cuzco from there.
Lake Titicaca
Lake Titicaca is on the altiplano - the high plain- of Peru. Its shores and islands are home to ancient customs and traditional dress -with the local people holding to their
old traditions. Stay in Puno - an ideal base for exploring, and visit Sillustani to see the Chullpas - the stone burial tower. Take a trip by motorboat (wear your woollies) to
the floating Uros islands and see the amazing Cordillera Real Range of mountains.
