Saudi Arabia Hotels
The Arabian Peninsula in the Middle East is home to Saudi Arabia, with a land mass of 2,149,690 square kilometers it is the largest country in the area. With borders to Jordan, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman and Yemen, it is home to around 25. 7 people and has the worlds largest oil reserves. Oil is their largest export and accounts for 90% of all exports and 75% of the income received by the government. Saudi Arabia is ruled by a monarchy with all law coming from Sharia and the Quran.
It is not permitted to have political elections or political parties. Due to these rules, the freedom of women is restricted in Saudi, women may not travel without a male relative, women cannot drive in major cities and homosexuality is banned and is punishable up to the death penalty. The country has large areas of desert, and this affects the climate, there are extremely high day time temperatures, with the evenings and nights seeing a marked drop.
Temperatures in the summer can get up to 45 degrees centigrade regularly, in fact temperatures as high as 54 degrees centigrade have been noted. Most tourists visit Saudi Arabia as a religions pilgrimage, as Mecca receives over 3 million pilgrims for Ramadam and 4 million for Umrah. The country ahs beautiful mountain ranges, amazing Red Sea beaches and fantastic sites for diving but these are visited by only a few tourists.
The country operates a very restrictive travel policy and advance visas are required fro all foreign visitors. Females visiting the country are expected to follow the laws of the country, including those on dress and unaccompanied travel. A travel visa is possible to get hold of, but only for guided tours through specified tour operators.

Places to visit in Saudi Arabia
Here are three suggestions for places to base your visit to Saudi Arabia
Note: Saudi Arabia is an Islamic country and alcohol and nightclubs are prohibited, so expect a quiet nightlife.
Riyadh
Riyadh is the long-standing capital and has probably been one of the fastest growing city is the world due to oil revenues. It is also the communication centre for travel to other parts of the kingdom. Whilst you stay in Riyadh do visit the clay and mud brick 19th century fort Masmak Castle, or the must-see Al Faisaliyah Centre the first skyscraper built with a golden ball at the top containing a restaurant - and a shopping mall on the ground level.
Jeddah
Jeddah is one of Saudi Arabias most modern cities, but you can also see the history of "Old Jeddah" too. In Al-Balad, downtown Jeddah, see the old buildings including a 700 year old mosque, and see the Kings Fountain 318 m high and is a Jeddah landmark. You can also go down to the beach where you can swim or snorkel - exploring the amazing coral reef. Or you can stay in the city and explore the shops, and eat in the world-class restaurants, or drive along the beautiful 120km Jeddah Corniche and see the open art gallery. Jeddah is only about a 40 minute drive from Mecca, Islams most holy city.
Madain Saleh
Most people have heard of Petra, the Nabatean city in Jordon, but not many people know about Madain Saleh, the second city of the Nabatean peoples, abut 300 km north of Medina, a centre of ancient civilisation and route of trade caravans and explorers. Here you will find the ancient stone carved temples set in a landscape of sand and colourful sandstone rock formations - the tombs perhaps not as spectacular as Petra, but still unique. See also the oasis of Al Ula and its palm groves and remains of the Hijaz Railway, with old steam locomotives left in the desert after the railway was destroyed by Lawrence of Arabia in World War 1.
