Senegal Hotels

The West-African democracy of Senegal is a country of contrasts, with desert in the north and tropical forests in the south. It lies on the Atlantic Ocean, and offers a variety of fabulous beaches, either as part of a dedicated resort with the expected bars and nightlife, or in small fishing villages, where visitors can take a pirogue trip into a labyrinth of waterways to watch kingfishers, dolphins and flamingos. The capital, Dakar, is a good location to reach the best beaches, and sits on a peninsular at the most westerly point of the country. It’s one of the liveliest cities on the continent, with some of the best music, art and nightlife. The peaceful town of Saint-Louis offers a good contrast to Dakar.

As the former capital, its architecture is of colonial style, and it is situated on an island in the Senegal River. Although it can be reached by car over a bridge, horse-drawn carts are still commonplace. Other places to visit include the Djoudj Bird Sanctuary in the Senegal River delta, where visitors can take boat trips to see the pelicans, and Niokolo Koba National Park, a World Heritage Site renowned for its wildlife in the southeast of the country.
