Slovenia Hotels
Slovenia in Central Europe is small in size but has an extremely varied geography, combining the Julian Alps, Mediterranean beaches, forests, lowland hills and the stunning Karst region of caves and underground lakes. Slovenia’s immediate neighbours include Austria, Italy, Hungary and Croatia and the country’s landscape, thriving economy and growing tourist trade make this a really attractive country to visit. The country’s capital, located in Central Slovenia is the picturesque Ljubljana, which has a charming Old Town; squares, bridges, Baroque architecture, numerous museums and an ancient castle. It is the ideal size to simply walk around and its cool bars and affordable hotels make it an ideal short city break. Elsewhere, Maribor is the Second city and a famed wine growing region with excellent skiing; The Julian Alps region includes The Triglav National Park which has every possible outdoor activity, the beautiful Lake Bohinj and Bled with it’s romantic lake, island and castle; Koper and Piran are lively and pretty coastal towns; Postojna in the Karst region is home to the Postojna Caves and its stunning stalactite and stalagmite formations as well as Predjama Castle whilst Ptuj is one of the country’s oldest cities best known for its festival celebrations.

Places to visit in Slovenia
Here are three suggestions for places to base your visit to Slovenia
Ljubljana
The capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana is not only perfect for a city break, but a starting point whist you decide where you want to travel to. It has lovely, often striking
architecture, scenic views with the Ljubljanca River running through the centre of the country - an older, medieval quarter, and a hillside castle. There is all you would
expect from a fine city - good restaurants serving everything from French food to Inns serving Slovene dishes, museums and art galleries, markets and shops. It also has an
excellent opera house - and if you go between June and the end of August you can join in the festival of concerts, dance and theatre performances or the three-day Jazz
Festival. You can hire a car/take trips out to the lakes and mountains from Ljubljana.
The Julian Alps Region
In the north west of Slovenia the white limestone Julian Alps dominate the landscape. Surrounding the highest peak, Mount Triglav, there is the Triglave National Park. There
are stunning views from the Vrsic Pass, connecting the Treta Valley from Bovec to Kranjska Gora. There are soaring peaks, deep valleys, rivers and thick forest .You must visit
the famous Lake Bled - a magic view of islands, lake and castle - and just about every activity you could wish is offered - hiking, rowing, tennis and golf. All this and Lake
Bled is only 20 minutes or so away from Ljubljana.
The Southern valleys and castles
An area of forests and lovely rivers, the protected nature area of Koccvske Rog is an area with primeval forests, and the truly beautiful Krka river flowing past the Dolejska
regions castles and under the wooden bridges is also full of fish and birdlife. Situated on a rocky outcrop above the river is the attractive town of Novo Mesto, with its
cobble streets, historical houses and gothic churches. The river also slows through several deep gorges - and experienced canoeists like to visit the rapids near Osilnica.
Visitors like to boat and fish and swim in the river, and surrounded by the spectacular vistas - what could be more life enhancing?
