South Korea Hotels
Within Eastern Asia lies South Korea. Its borders include China and Taiwan. It has a mountainous landscape to the east and large plains with rivers and hills to the west. The south west has mountain valleys and the south east has the ‘Nakdong River’, and its capital city is Seoul. To the west is the Yellow Sea and to the east is the Sea of Japan.
History South Korea was first inhabited in the ‘Lower Paleolithic Period’. In 2333 BC ‘Gojoseon’ which was an ancient Korean Kingdom was founded. In 668 AD Korea unified as part of the 3 kingdoms.
Korea was one nation through the ‘Goryeo Dynasty’ and the ‘Joseon Dynasty’ until 1910 at the end of the Korean Empire. At the end of World War II Korea was divided into north and south by Soviet and US forces. South Korea was established in 1948 and became a democracy.
Political unrest caused many problems until the late 20th century. The border between north and South Korea is the most heavily guarded in the world. The economy grew substantially after the war.
It became a regional power in East Asia. South Korea now has 16 administrative divisions with a high standard of living. It is a member of the United Nations, W70 and OECD.
Climate South Korea has a humid subtropical climate which is affected by the East Asian monsoon with heavy summer rain June to July. Winters can be cold and temperatures can fall as low as -20 degrees Centigrade. Spring is from March to May, summer is from May to September, autumn is from September to November and winter is from November to March.
There are Typhoons in summer along southern coast. Cuisine South Korea’s cuisine is based on rice, noodles, tofu, vegetables, fish and meat. ‘Banchan’ are small dishes to be shared and they are accompanied with rice, ‘Kimchi’ is a spicy vegetable dish served at every meal.
Seasame oil, ‘Doenjang’ which is a type of soybean paste, soy sauce, salt, garlic, ginger and ‘Gochujang’ which is a hot pepper sauce are used within cooking. Soups are a part of the Korean meal and are served as art of the main course. Places of Interest While visiting South Korea there are several places of interest including the ‘Boseong Tea Fields’, ‘Suncheon Bay Ecological Park’, ‘National Park of Jirisan’, ‘National Museum of Korea, ‘National Folk Museum, ‘Seoraksan National Park’, ‘Jeju’ for its culture and Seoul the capital which is one of the top 20 world class cities.
Other cities in South Korea include Ulsan, Sokcho, Gangneng, Chun Cheon, Jeonu, Suwon and Andong. South Korea also has many beaches, temples, parks, hiking areas, gardens shopping centres and night clubs to visit too. Summary South Korea is an interesting place to visit with much culture.

Check out the capital city itself - especially the National Folk museum, the Presidential Office, the Chogyesa Temple and the Kyongbok Palace. Then venture further afield - especially to the living museum of the Korean Folk Village showing traditional lifestyles. Also worth visiting is the Suwon Hwasung Castle and Fortress. You must also try the wonderful food and see the many artistic and culture pleasures of the city.

Second-city Busan is a bustling port with a number of attractions, which will please the intrepid traveller. Not only are there beautiful natural landscapes, including fine beaches, scenic islets and mountains, but also a number of interesting places to visit. Busan also houses an international film festival. Visit Beomoesa Temple and the beautiful Nakdonggang Estuary, and enjoy the Taejongdae Resort and the various beaches.
Jeju Island
The former Jeju-do is now Jeju Self-Governing Province, but whatever its called, this holiday island is worth a visit. An ideal location - volcanic landscapes, mild weather and both temperate and tropical flora and fauna, it is also a comprehensive tourist resort. Visit the beautiful Udo Maritime Park, and stunning Mount Hallasan National Park, the coastal cliffs and the interesting Sanbanggulsa Grotto.
