Tunisia Hotels
The country of Tunisia is in the North of Africa on the Mediterranean Coast. Surrounding countries are Italy, Malta, Libya and Algeria. Tunisia is approximately 1135 miles from the United Kingdom when flying direct to the country’s capital, Tunis. The country’s population is approximately 10. 4 million and the major languages are Arabic (which is the official language) and also French.
Many tourists enjoy holidaying in Tunisia because of the beautiful Mediterranean beaches. The Mediterranean climate enjoys dry and hot summers and the winters are generally mild. If you prefer a cooler climate then it is best to visit during the spring, between the middle of March through to the middle of May.
The south of the country however has the Sahara desert which is obviously extremely hot during the summer months; come November, it is cooler and perhaps more comfortable to visit. To the north, there is an abundance of lakes where you will spot dozens of pink flamingos and olive and citrus trees surround the coast and plains. Generally, Tunisia has a wealth of attractions as well as spectacular beaches and incredible scenery in the desert and is also a country steeped in ancient history with so much to see and do wherever you decide to visit.

Places to visit in Tunisia
Here are three suggestions for places to base your visit to Tunisia
Hammamet - Sea and Sand
Hammamet conjures up visions of sunbathing on spotless beaches and all that goes with an ideal beach holiday. But Hammamet also has its culture - the fishermen in brightly painted boats, the medina and its ramparts and with an ancient fort, as well as fashionable boutiques for buying your splendid kaftans and tunics. The Gulf of Hammamet is home to miles of wonderful beaches, hotels and pristine seas; youll also find se-sports, festivals and exhibitions to interest you.
Tunis and the Medina
Only an hour away from Hammamet, the modern city of Tunis can take you by surprise, with a blend of old, but showing the life of a modern buzzing Mediterranean city. Enjoy strolls down the tree-lined Avenue Habib Bourguiba, and beyond the Cathedral, is the gateway to the ancient Medina. Explore the narrow streets and the small shops with their treasures of carved wood, brass, leather and brightly coloured clothes, also antiques, Berber jewellery and pottery, all of which will fascinated you, but remember to haggle! And Haggle! Then go on to the Mosque of the Olive Tree, Ez Zitouna, the Heart of the Medina. The Medina is a wealth of ancient palaces, mosques and a living museum. Da Ben Abdullah, Dar Hussein, Dar El Bey and Dar El Jed and others, once residences of the wealthy, now are cultural centres or restaurants or government buildings.
Carthage and surroundings
A National Monument, Carthage, and the nearby Salammbo are full of the remains of the Punic and Roman empires, with baths, houses, temples and shrines of this, the naval port of the Carthaginians. Visit the hill of Byrsa where Carthage was founded by legendary Princess Dido, the newly restored former cathedral of Saint Louis which sits on top of the hill is now a museum and cultural centre. For a millennium, the Phoenicians ruled the Mediterranean and the port of Salammbo sheltered their ships. Visit Admirals island and see work of the reconstruction.
