Abruzzo Hotels Italy

Abruzzo can be found in the lower calf region of the boot and its western border is 50 miles east of Rome. To the north there is the region known as Marche and to the west, southwest is Lazio and in the south east is Molise while the eastern border is met by the Adriatic Sea. The capital of this region and of the province which bears the same name is L'Aquila. The western region of the Abruzzo has the Apennines as its main bordered and is one of the most mountainous regions in all of Italy. It has many rivers which can be seasonal but the main two are the Pescara and the Sangro, inland lies the Abruzzo National Park which is home to wolves, bears and golden eagles.

The climate here is varied, in the coastal area it is warm and dry while in the mountains it is an alpine climate. Skiing is big business here, so much so that this region of Italy has 21 ski areas and all are only a few hours’ drive out of Rome. The main resorts here are Roccaraso, Campo Felice and Campo Imperatore which are situated at high elevation within the Apennines.

Cross country skiing is also very popular in this region. The coastline resorts have some of the best beaches and sands in Italy with popular resorts including Vasto, Silvi Marina, Giulianova, Francavilla al Mare and Martinsicuro. This region of Italy has numerous castle and medieval towns to explore, with a good majority of them around the town of L'Aqutheila.

It also has one third of its total mass designated as national or regional parkland. Some of the other places to visit include the Acquapark Ondablu in Tortoreto Lido which is a water park, the Majella National Park, Museo Naizonale d'Abruzzo in L'Aquila which is a history museum, Bomba in Chieti which is an historical site and Castel Del Monte. Hotels in this region range from the two star Hotel Dei Sette in Vasto to the five star Grand Hotel Berti in Silvi Marina.
