Alsace Hotels France

Alsace Alsace is the fourth smallest(8. 28K sq km) of France’s 26 regions and the smallest in metropolitan France. It is also the third most densely populated area in metropolitan France with almost 2 million inhabitants. Alsace is situated on France’s extreme eastern border on the west bank of the Rhine, next to Germany on the north and Switzerland on the south. It has the French regions of Franche Comte on the south and Lorraine on the west side.

The political capital and largest city is Strasbourg, and given that it is the seat of many organisations and bodies is an important region of the European Union. Alsace consists of a plain joining the Rhine to the east and the Vosges mountains to the west. There are also several valleys and the highest elevation is the Grand Ballon at 1426m, with grand view of the Black Forest from the top.

The Jura mountains go through the area of Belfort. Alsace has always been densely populated and therefore has a large number of picturesque villages and towns, with many churches and castles. In addition, Alsace is known for its vineyards and the thick green forests including the Erstein Forest and scenic lakes of the Vosges mountains, as well as the biological diversity found in Alsace’s Petite Camargue.

A total of 21 nature reserves protects the natural heritage sites for plants and wildlife.
