Apulia Hotels Italy

Apulia Apulia (Puglia) is one of Italy’s 20 regions in the southeast boot heeled part of Italy, having borders with the Adriatic Sea in the east, Ionian Sea to the southeasi, the Strait of Otranto and the Gulf of Taranto in the south. The southern part, or Salento, is a peninsula forming the high heel of the boot of Italy. It shares borders with the other Italian regions of Molise to the north, Campania to the west and Basilicata to the southwest. The state is neighbour to Greece and Albania across the Ionian and Adriatic Seas respectively. Bari is the regional capital of Apulia, whilst other provincial capitals are Brindisi, Foggia, Lecce and Taranto.

Apulia is the least mountainous region in Italy, consisting mainly of broad plains and low-lying hills: it is essentially a flatland wide open areas, terraces and table lands, and is a fairly arid region. The Murgia highland and the coast show impressive karst formations (through the action of water on soluble rocks), such as grottoes and hollows. The coasts are quite high and, in the only mountainous areas, the Gargano district, plunge steeply into the sea, but are sandy or rocky but quite flat in other areas.

Apulia has not been one of Italy’s traditional tourist destinations but is becoming more popular for its baroque towns, white-washed trullo houses, its olive groves and orchard, not to mention its beaches, sunshine and excellent cuisine.
