Aquitaine Hotels France

Aquitaine Aquitaine is one of the 26 regions of France 41K sq km in area, situated in the south western part of the country, along the Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees mountain range, on the border with Spain. Apart from the Pyrenees in the south, lowlands predominate in Aquitaine. The highest point in the region is the peak of Midi d’Ossau, 2885m, though most land lies below 500m, and a great deal of this is forested, and Landes is one of the most densely forested departments in France. Major rivers are the Adour, Dordogne and the Garonne which flows NW through Bordeaux. Aquitaine has five departments: the Gironde, the Landes, and the Pyrenees Atlantique situated along the coasts, and the Lot et Garonne and the Dordogne, inland.

Bordeaux is the capital of Aquitaine and is around 350 miles south west of Paris. Bordeaux is a wine growing area of international reputation: the vineyards of Bordeaux produce Margaux, Medoc, Sauterne and Saint Emilion wines, and also offers gourmet food and local specialties. Aquitaine is popular with visitors for its superb forests, parks, lakes and also for its famous seaside resorts such as Biarritz, Lacanau, Mimizan and Archachon offering both attraction for surfers and sandy beaches for relaxing and water activities.

Le Landes is the largest pine forest in France – and there are other National Parks and forests for the nature lovers. There are ski slopes and ski resorts, and the area is a leading region for golfers, offering a long list of outdoor activities.
