Aragon Hotels Spain

Aragon Aragon is one of Spain’s 17 autonomous communities situated in northeastern Spain, in the middle of the Pyrenees, bordering France to the north. The autonomous community of Catalonia borders Aragon to the east and Valencia and Castile-La Mancha are to the south and Castile and Leon, La Rioja and Navarre are to the west. It has three provinces: Huesca at the French border, Zaragoza and Teruel. Zaragoza is its capital (Saragossa in English). Aragon’s terrain is very diverse from permanent glaciers to green valleys, pastures and orchards, through to the plains of the central lowlands.

Spain’s largest river, the Ebro flows west to east across the region. The highest mountain in the Pyrenees, Aneto (3404m) is in Aragon. The Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park in the north with its frozen lake, caverns and special wildlife species, including sanctuaries for birds of prey, is the most spectacular place to visit, and in winter it is a heaven for skiers.

In the summer the limestone chasms and canyons provide a playground for mountaineers and rock climbers, pot holers, as well as mountain bikers, horse riders, hikers and birdwatchers. Visitors can also enjoy white water rafting and paragliding. Aragon is also known for its Aragonese Mudejar architecture, located in the valleys of Ebro, Jalon and Jiloca where the Islamic tradition of Muslim builders is fused with Romanesque and Cistercian Gothic.

In Zaragossa the Aljaferia is said to be the most important Moorish structure in northern Spain.
