Australian Capital Territory Hotels Australia

The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is Australia's purpose built capital territory, located within the state of New South Wales. Canberra is the capital city of Australia and located within ACT and the territory has a population of around 350,000 people. Aside from Canberra, the Australian Capital Territory consists largely of farmlands and vineyards aswell as Namadgi National Park which is home to the Naas and Murrumbidgee Rivers and a number of mountain ranges. The Territory also has a few small townships such as Williamsdale, Naas, Uriarra, Tharwa and Hall. The Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve is located south of Canberra, as is the NASA (US) Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex which is an excellent day trip from Canberra.

As Canberra was a planned national capital, there are plenty of national monuments and museums in addition to a plethora of outdoor activities such as bushwalking and boating on or cycling around the artificial lake, Lake Burley Griffin. North of Lake Burley Griffin, are a number of attractions such as the Australian War Memorial, Canberra Museum and Gallery, the National Capital Exhibition – which recounts how the city an territory were planned and built, the National Museum of Australia and the Australian National Botanic Gardens. South of the lake is home to the Parliament and High Court buildings along with the National Gallery of Australia, the National Portrait Gallery, the National Library and the Questacon – the National Science and Technology Centre which is hugely interactive and great for kids.

Other local attractions include the Canberra Walk-In Aviary, Stromlo Forest Park – a great location for cycling and mountain biking, Big Splash Waterpark, the National Dinosaur Museum (located 13km north of Canberra), Cockington Green miniature village, Lanyon Homestead and Canberra Reptile Sanctuary. Canberra also has some great markets which are a relaxing way to spend a weekend morning – including Canberra Antiques Centre, Jamison Market, Tuggeranong Market and Gorman House Market as well as a handful of Farmers markets selling local produce. Canberra has a diverse mix of cultures, reflected in its many cuisines so there are plenty of dining options from quirky cafes to top class restaurants including Kingsleys Steak and Crab House, Rubicon and Banana Leaf.

Accommodation is varied in the territory with most standard hotels being in Canberra. The city also has anumber of cheaper hotels and lodgings too. A 3 star hotel in Canberra would cost between £80 - £150 per night; 4 stars including Diamant Boutique Hotel, Crowne Plaza and Novotel, cost up to £250 per night and the 5 star Hyatt has rooms up to around £300 per night.

Outside Canberra, the Gold Creek Tourist Resort, to the north of the city, has accommodation available, and there are limited options available in the smaller towns.
