Basse-Normandie Hotels France

Basse-Normandie Basse-Normandie (Lower Normany) is one of France’s 26 regions. It is situated in the northwest of France, with its northwestern edge bordered by the coast of La Manche (English Channel). Bretagne and Pays de la Loire are on the southwest of Basse-Normandie and Centre on the southeast, whilst northern borders are with Haute-Normandie. Caen is the capital of the region. There are cliffs and fine beaches in the coastal landscape of Basse-Normandie, whilst on the west of the area is a mosaic of different areas of hedged farmland.

The centre of the region is the Normandy plain, and northeast is the Auge, a uniform area stretching from Cote Fleune near Deauville to northeast of Argentan, with Lisieux in the centre. In the southeast the Perche area is comprised of hills cut by small rivers. These areas are called the Suisse Normandie and the Alpes Mancelles, with the highest peaks at 417m.

Basse-Normandie has three regional parks. Many visitors to Basse-Normandie will go to see Omaha and Utah beaches for the historical or personal interest, as well as the D Day Museum at Caen. Mont Saint Michel is in Basse-Normandie, and is a very popular place to visit as is Deauville, with its stylish past and present.

Perhaps Basse-Normandie is best known for its horses, with its two largest stud farms in France.
