Bavaria Hotels Germany
Bavaria is a region in southeast Germany, and with an area of nearly 71 sq km is the largest of the 16 German states. The population of 12. 5 million people is greater than any of the sovereign states of Switzerland, Austria and the Czech Republic which border onto Bavaria. Bavaria shares its international borders with Switzerland across Lake Constance, and its southern borders with Austria are marked by the Bavarian Alps – and in this range is the highest peak in Germany – the Zugspitze. The Bavarian Forest and the Bohemian Forest form most of the border with the Czech Republic and Bohemia.
Adding to this rich scenic context, Bavaria has two major rivers flowing through the region, the Danube and the Main ,as well as many others The capital city of Bavaria is Munich (Munchen) where the famous Oktoberfest takes place every year, and other major cities are Nuremburg, Ausberg and Regensberg and also Wurzburg Furth and Ingolstadt. Bavaria is a favorite destination in Germany – and it’s not just beer and sausages (though some would say it’s worth visiting just to experience these ) its not just scenic churches and castles, beautiful palaces, and skiing or hiking or for city breaks. Bavaria is this and much more ! The Kingdom of Bavaria existed as a separate entity from 1806 to 1918, and since that time Bavaria has been a free state.
Predominantly a Catholic state with a distinct culture – and traditions and customs have a high status. These include folk songs and folk dances, folk bands and groups. There are traditional festivals for children – such as the Tanzelfest in Kaufbeuren, but also medieval knight tournaments in Kaltenberg and numerous other historic pageants and tournaments.
Bavaria is also known for events during the Festive season where there are famous Christmas markets held in cities, towns and villages throughout Bavaria – the season runs throughout the period of Advent from the end of November through to the third week in December.
