Bihar State of Hotels India

The state of Bihar is in eastern India and has the third largest population in India. It covers an area of 94,163 square miles and has a population of nearly 83 million. It is divided into two parts by the river Ganges from West to East and has a large forest area. Hindi and Urdu are the official languages of the state. Patna is the state capital and is one of the world’s oldest capital cities.

The state’s history spans 300 years. Six million tourists visit here each year as there are numerous ancient monuments to visit and it is a sacred place for Hindus, Buddhism, Sikhism and Islam. Places to Visit There are many great places to visit while you are here, one of these being the Mahabodhi temple which is a Buddhist shrine and UNESCO world heritage site.

Bodh Gaya is considered to be the birthplace of Buddhism. There are twice daily river cruises around Patna which are operated by the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation. The Chhath festival is an ancient and major festival in Bihar and is celebrated twice a year – once in the summer (Chaiti Chhath) and once about a week after Deepa Wali (Kartik Chhath).

Worshippers during this time will fast without water for more than 24 hours. Transport There are two main airports in the state, Loknayak Jayaprakash airport in Patna and Gaya airport in Gaya. Patna airport has flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Luckno, Bangaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune and Ranchi.

Gaya airport flies to Colombo, Singapore, Bangkok and Paro. There is a good railway network here which links direct to Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and many more destinations. The state of Bihar has always had a bad reputation for crime, however this is steadily improving and it is always best when travelling to be aware of your surroundings and take care.

Weather The best time of year to visit the area is October, November, February and March. The coldest months here are December and January when temperatures range between 4 and 10 degrees. It is very hot in the summer when temperatures can hit 40 degrees.
