Campania Campania is the second most populous (5. 8 million) and most densely populated of Italy’s 20 regions. It is situated is the south of the Italian peninsula with the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west, the small Flegrean Islands and Capri are also part of the administrative region. Campania is bordered by Lazio to the northwest, Molise to the north, Apulia to the northeast, Basilicata to the southeast and the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west. Campania is famous not only for its Gulfs (of Naples, Salerno and Policastro) but also for its three islands (Capri, Ischia and Procida).

There are three main areas in Campania: the hill lands (about half the territory) the Apennines (about a third) and the rest is comprised of alluvial zones, plains and coastline. The mountainous area is fragmented into different massifs rarely reaching 2000m -the highest peak is Mount Miletto, and close to the coast there are the volcanic massifs Vesuvio and Campi Flegri. The capital city is Naples, Campania is rich in culture – its food, music, architecture and archeology draw visitors from over the world.

Ancient sites such as Pompei, Herculaneum and Paestum are of major tourist interest, as are the tours of the Amalfi coast, visiting Mount Vesuvius and the isle of Capri. The cities of Campania are very popular to visitors for with a range of historical and gastronomic attractions: there is not only the capital Naples, but also the attractive Amalfi, Positano, Ravello and Sorrento.
