Florida Florida is STATE OF THE United States of America. It is situated in the southeastern United States sharing borders with Alabama to the north and Georgia to the northwest. However, most of the state’s land is a peninsula having the Gulf of Mexico to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Caribbean to the south, and has the longest coastline (2170 km) in the contiguous United States. Tallahassee is the state capital and the largest city is Jacksonville. Florida is quite flat with a rolling landscape to its highest point (345 ft above sea level) in the northwest.

Three geographic areas make up the Florida landscape: the Atlantic Coastal Plain, the East Gulf Coastal plain and the Florida Uplands (!) 11K sq miles of Florida are covered with water making it the wettest state behind Alaska and Michigan. Florida has a range of interesting places to visit and things to do for the visitor. Central Florida is a favourite destination for visitors due to the theme parks, NASCAR races, natural springs, golf courses, and NASA.

The Kennedy Space Centre, Orlando and Walt Disney World are in East Central Florida, with major cities of Cape Canaveral, Cocoa Beach, Daytona Beach and West Palm Beach, Southeast Florida is also known as Florida's Gold Coast. This region stretches over 300 miles from Fort Pierce to Key West, and is home to twenty-four state parks. Other towns and cities include Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Miami Beach, South Beach, Boca Raton, Palm Beach and Islamorada.

The Florida Keys are a cluster of about 1700 islands in the southeast United States. They begin at the southeastern tip of the Florida peninsula, about 15 miles south of Miami, and extend in a gentle arc to Key West, the westernmost of the inhabited islands.
