Franche-Comte Hotels France

Franche-Comté can be found in eastern France, it has borders with Loraine, Champagne-Ardenne, Bourgogne and Rhone-Alps. Its capital is Besançon and other major cities include Belfort, and Montbéliard,it is also close to the border with Switzerland. The climate here is continental with warm summers and cold and long winters due to its elevation. Average summer temperatures range from 16 to 20 degrees and winter see’s low of 1 to 2 degrees. The warmer months are restricted to June, July and August with September averaging around 15 degrees, from there the temperatures being to drop and reach 2 degrees by December.

The capital is latterly a gem in the hidden reaches of the country, unlike a lot of French cites it remains unspoilt by over development and a lot of the old stone build houses and building are still standing today. In this tucked away city you will find the Musée des Beaux Arts which has been dubbed the ‘petit Louvre’ due to the wealth of pieces it contains. There are pieces here by Rembrandt, Rubens, Fragonard, Courbet and Matisse.

There are two other interesting museums here, the Museum of Time in the stunning 16th century Granvelle Palace and the Museum of Resistance and the Deportation which is in the Citadel. Some of the other area and places of interest include the Chapelle Notre Dame du Haut, which is near to Lure, Arc et Senans: Royal Saltworks which is an UNESCO world heritage site, Metabief / Mont d'Or is s small ski resort in winter and has a number of summer activities as well. There is also the Le Conifer steam railway, Chateau de Joux which is a fortress near to the Swiss border and Château Chalon which is s small village that overlooks the regions famous vineyards.

Hotels in this region of France include the one star Premiere Classe Besancon in Ecole Valentin and the Campanile Montbeliard in Sochaux. Two star hotels include the Ibis Besancon La City in the capital and the Hotel Kyriad in Belfort. Three star accommodations come in the form of the Chateau de la Dame Blanche in Geneuille, Residence Les Sources in Luxeuil-les-Bains and the Mercure Besancon Parc Micaud in the capital.
