Guangxi is located in the far south of China, bordering Vietnam and was created purely for the Zhuang people. A naturally beautiful part of the country with its mountainous landscapes and numerous rivers running through the valleys, it is a popular tourist destination. The Nanling mountains are on the northeast border, with the Dayao and Daming mountains in the centre of the region and the Yunkai mountains to the south. The sub-tropical climate makes the summers extremely hot, and visitors should check the annual weather patterns before travelling to avoid the more rainy seasons. The main cities in the province are Nanning, Liuzhou, Beihai and Guilin.

Other towns include Yangshuo, Sanjiang, Dazhai, Liuzhou, Xingping, Zhanjiang and Longsheng which is to the north of the province and well-known for its rice terraces. Guilin is one of the most visited cities in the province; renowned for its beauty, with its historical buildings, tropical climate and perfect setting upon the Lijiang River. Here you can cycle or hike through the forests, taking in the spectacular scenery along the river, with the natural caves and rock formations whilst within the city itself, the Jingjiang Princes City has its own unique story to tell visitors.

It is known as “the city within a city” and it origins date back to the 14th Century. Many princes have lived here through the centuries but nowadays it is the main attraction for visitors in the city as well as being used by the University. Nanning (meaning South Tranquility) is another popular tourist destination, owing to the tropical nature of the countryside.

The International Airport of Nanning is just 35km outside of the city and buses, trains and taxis are available from here. As the Guangxi region of China is fairly large and there are a few options when travelling there by air. The Beihai Fecheng Airport is 24km outside the city of Beihai and services direct flights from many major Chinese cities and the Guilin Liangjiang International Airport is one of the largest of the province, servicing connections to all major overseas destinations though Beijing , Shanghai and Hong Kong as well as a network of domestic flights.
