Illinois Illinois is a midwestern state in the United States of America and is the fifth most populous with a land area of some144K sq km. Then northeastern border of Illinois is with Lake Michigan and its eastern border with Indiana is marked by the Wabash River. Then northern border is with Wisconsin and the western border with Missouri and Iowa is marked by the Mississippi River. The southern border with Kentucky is likewise marked by the Ohio River.
