Iwate-ken Hotels Japan

Iwate –Ken, or Iwate Prefecture is the second largest administrative district in Japan. It is situated on the eastern side of Honshu Island and has Morioka as its capital. The province faces the Pacific and is quite mountainous with several active volcanoes including Mount Iwate, the highest point in the region. The fertile Kitakami river basin is where most of the urban areas have developed. Near the city of Hiraizumi are several ancient temple complexes.

Motsu-ju temple has a rambling monastery and gardens and a museum. Originally founded in 850AD, this Buddhist temple still operates today. The capital, Morioka is overlooked by Mount Iwate which acts as a beautiful backdrop to this picturesque city.

The city boasts many beautiful old buildings and plenty of fine restaurants and shopping opportunities. There are temples to visit, including the 14th century Hoonji Temple and the Iwate Museum of art which houses works by notable Japanese artists as well as hosting international exhibitions. There is plenty of good accommodation in the Iwate Prefecture, mainly in the cities.

The Yusen Shidate in Hanamaki is well reviewed and the rooms have their own open air hot springs! In Morioka, The Hotel Metropolitan Morioka is conveniently situated close to the main station and has comfortable rooms and enthusiastic staff.
