Kansas Hotels United States

Named after the river that flows through it, Kansas is in the Midwest of the United States. The name is derived from the Kansa Tribe – meaning “people of the wind. ” The largest city in Kansas is Wichita, but the State contains more than six thousand so-called “Ghost Towns” – places that have become abandoned for one reason or another. Originally the home of many Native American Tribes, after the Civil War in America, immigrants arrived to cultivate the prairies into Farmland. President Dwight Eisenhower hailed from Kansas and it’s still possible to view his home, in Abilene.

There’s no easy way to fit in everything to do in Kansas. One “must see” is Dodge City, famous for the cattle drives along the old Santa Fe Trail, back in the late 19th century. It was the biggest cattle market in the world and home to Wyatt Earp and Buffalo Wild Bill Hickok.

Visit the Buffalo bill monument in Oakley. If you’ve got time, follow one of the trails established centuries ago by the Native Americans from the Missouri River around Lawrence and Topeka. In Pawnee to see one of many Kansas “Ghost towns” or there are several old buildings from 1870 at Silkville in Franklin County.

A more up to date Kansas can be seen near Montezuma, which is home to the first wind farm in the State. There’s also the Lee Richardson Zoo at Garden City. Explore the Mid America Air Museum and President Dwight Eisenhower’s old home and library in Abilene.

Then there’s “Dorothy’s House” – built in 1907 to replicate the house in the classic movie “The Wizard of Oz”. You’ll find it on Cedar in Liberal. Follow their Yellow Brick Road into a five thousand foot area of animated “Oz” entertainment.

Crawford County has been dubbed the “Fried Chicken Capital of Kansas”. There you can eat at six rival “chicken house diners”, paying special attention to the rivalry between Chicken Mary’s and Chicken Annie’s across the street. Kansas City boasts the amazing Baymont Inn and Suites as accommodation in the south – or you might try the well-liked Hotel Philips.

The Holiday Inn Key Sports Complex on Hill Crest Road is a good bet – or out of town in Wichita try the highly renowned Hyatt.
