Louisiana Hotels United States

Situated on the Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana is in the southern region of the United States and has a humid subtropical climate. Its capital is Baton Rouge. After Hurricane Gustav in 2008 and the distastrous B. Oil spill of 2010, Louisiana deserves a helping hand back to previous happy times.

The area lies along the Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi River and consists of low swamp lands, marches and beaches. Louisiana is rich in natural gas, petroleum, music and Creole culture. It’s an area that actually loses around 25 square miles of marsh land every year – one of the fastest rates of land loss annually in the world.

The inhabitants are a mixture of Asian/Hispanic/European/African/Cajun and Creole Americans and the area is dominated mainly by a Cajun/Creole culture. Head for Gibsland to see where the two famous outlaws purchased their last take away – the Bonnie and Clyde Museum is a must! Enjoy a day in the Bayou if you head for Thibodaux and Zam’s Swamp Tours where highly entertaining guides will show you nature in the raw! At the Voodoo Museum in New Orleans you’ll see America’s first Voodoo Promoter’s Top Hat, a Zombie Whip and a penis belonging to a Raccoon. It’s worth the journey.

Immerse yourself in the music of Louisiana – soul, jazz, Dixieland Mardi Gras and more. The area has a unique musical heritage – from Baton Rouge to New Orleans and it was where Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Domino and “Cookie and the Cupcakes” hailed from. Vinyl shops abound and the world goes to party at the Bourbon Street Bars, in the French Quarter.

Be sure to sample the Creole culture when eating out. It takes a little from the French, Spanish and Native Americans. Try a Crawfish Bisque, a Gumbo and Creole Baked chicken, Grits, Pecan Pie and Raspberry Cobbler!Covering only the hotels in New Orleans, which is where you may gravitate, try the Hotel Provician or the romantic and unique Cornstalk hotel, in the French Quarter.

Near the centre of town the Clarion Grand Boutique comes dripping with Spanish Moss. More economical choices, but with flair – the Melrose Mansion B&B was voted most romantic and you might try the elegant H.

Whitney House.
