Michigan Hotels United States

Michigan Michigan is one the states of the United States of America, situated in the Great Lakes Region. Michigan is the only state to consists of two separate peninsulas: the Lower and the Upper Peninsulas, separated from each other by the Straits of Mackinac, a five mile wide channel that joins the Great Lakes of Huron and Michigan. It has the longest freshwater shoreline than any other political subdivision in the world, and more lighthouses ( around 150) than any other state. Michigan’s capital is Lansing. The great Lakes bordering the state of Michigan from east to west are Lake Erie, Lake Huron, Lake Michigan and Lake Superior.

On the south Michigan has borders with Ohio and Indiana; its western borders are water boundaries with Illinois and Wisconsin across Lake Michigan. It has a land boundary with Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, then a water boundary with Lake Superior, with Wisconsin and Minnesota to the west , and to the north and east, the Canadian province of Ontario. The heavily forested Upper Peninsula has the Porcupine Mountains in the west, and is sparsely populated.

The Lower Peninsula, with almost two-thirds of Michigan’s land has mainly level terrain with a few conical hills and glacial moraines. With so much water and natural resources it is no wonder that Michigan is a paradise for the outdoors-oriented tourist. Whether its fishing boating or swimming in the 11,000 or so inland lakes, or hiking through the national and state parks or enjoying the many attractions.

Tourists will enjoy the Detroit or Big Rapid Museums, the Howell Theme Park near Ann Arbor, the Holland Aquatic Center or the Nelis Dutch Village – and many more.
