Midi-Pyrenees Hotels France

Midi-Pyrenees Midi-Pyrenees is the largest of the 26 regions of France. It is situated in the southwest, it is bordered by Auvergne and Limousin to the north, Aquitaine to the west and Languedoc-Rousillion to the east. Midi-Pyrenees encompasses the mountains of the Pyrenees along the border between France and Spain, and a further strip running into the remote northern area then high plateau country, through Gers (Gascony) and Lot just east of the Dordogne. So Midi-Pyrenees has mountain scenery to both north and south; the high plains of the Causses in the north east has hillocks and sandy expanses moors and pine woods, and dense forested valleys. Midi-Pyrenees has 8 departments, each with its own character, but mainly visitors come to the area for three major reasons: to the mountains in the south, the beautiful countryside and historical attractions of the north, or the various delights of the Gers (Gascony) region in the centre of the region.

The Pyrenees are the focus of southern Midi-Pyrenees –the scenery is mountain scenery is wild and dramatic and the capital of the region Toulouse is in the Haute-Garonne Department that passes from the centre of the region to the mountains on the border with Spain. There are bastide towns (fascinating medieval “new towns”) in this area worth a visit.
