Minnesota Minnesota is a midwestern state in the United States of America, and is known as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes. , with its capital of St Paul. Nearly 60% of the population live in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area known as the “Twin Cities”. On the northwest the state has a Lake Superior water border that is shares with Michigan and Wisconsin: the rest of the eastern border is with Wisconsin, whilst Iowa is to the south, North Dakota and South Dakota to the west, and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba to the north. The northeastern part of the state has rocky ridges and deep lakes, and the area north of Lake Superior is the most rugged and most isolated, and Eagel Mountain, the state’s highest mountain is located in this area.

About half of Minnesota is covered by the gently rolling plains left after the ice age glaciers retreated, and are covered by fertile topsoil, and this area has some of the USA’s richest farmland. In the eastern part of Minnesota are mountains that are part of the Canadian Shield, now decreasingly mined for iron ore. The state has more than 11,000 lakes and many streams and rivers that feed three large river systems, the Red River and the Mississippi that gathers waters from the St Croix and Minnesota Rivers.

Minnesota has a variety of attractions on offer for the visitor. The Twin cities area alone can fill up a holiday, and the winters in this area are not as harsh as in the north of the state. The Twin Cities are close to Bloomington where the absolutely massive Mall of America shopping and entertainment facilities wow visitors including a special Park Mall for children.

Outdoor activities flourish in Minnesota – canoeing or kayaking, hiking or fishing – and Boundary Waters Canoe area has every kind of water-based activity you could wish for. Mountain biking enthusiasts will find many trails, and there are many golf courses and houseboat rental adventures down the Mississippi.
