Mississippi Hotels United States
Mississippi is in the southern section of the United States and gets its name from the Mississippi River, which flows along its western side. The capital city is Jackson and most of the state (nick-named the “Magnolia State”), is covered with forests and catfish aquaculture farms. There are a number of large, thriving National Parks and pre-Civil War Mansions to visit. A highlight of your trip might be the renowned Mississippi Museum of Natural Science with its amazing aquarium and collection of fish, alligators, turtles and a lush native plant garden. You’ll be whisked back in time on a trip to the Vicksburg National Military Park and if possible you should climb aboard the American Queen, a Mississippi river paddle wheel steamboat, with all the trimmings!Right up to date at French Camp, Mississippi is the Rainwater Observatory and Planetarium.
Join fifty observers for a great view of the sky and so much more! Head for Jackson to take in views from the past such as Natchez Trace National Park, the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum and join a celebration of all things African-American at the Smith Robertson Museum and Cultural Centre. Explore the National Battlefield Site at Brice’s Cross Roads and the Tupelo National Battlefield is also worth a trip. Spend a day at the Lansdowne Plantation where you will step into another world amidst one hundred woodland acres, family cemetery and amazing park like gardens.
While in Mississippi, be sure to see the amazing swinging bridge at Tishomingo State Park and the famous Biloxi Lighthouse. Eat out at Shapley's Restaurant in Jackson which has been serving fine steaks since 1985, but you must try the Mississippi mud pie, pralines, pecan pie and Cajun fried pecans of the area. Try the Meatloaf Luck Plate at the Ajax Diner on Courthouse Square, Oxford! To sleep under the stars, book in at the Campgrounds at Barnes Crossing, in Tupelo or the Martin Lake Resort, Biloxi.
Two economical hotels are the 2-star La Quinta North Jackson Hotel or the Best Western Hotel and Suites, Olive Branch. Pay more, to get more, at the Hilton Hotel in Jackson.
