Miyagi-ken Hotels Japan

Miyagi-ken is a prefecture located in the T?hoku Region on Honshu Island, north east Japan. Situated on the Pacific side of the island, there are mountains to the west and a saw tooth coastline to the north east. It is the area, together with its capital Sendai, which took the full force of the 9. 0 magnitude earthquake and subsequent Tsunami, in March 2011. The Japanese Government has since said that it will take ten years or more to rebuild the country’s earthquake disaster areas and it will cost a hundred and forty five billion pounds.

The Tsunami was thought to be ten metres high in Miyagi-ken. Residents were told to leave their homes. In April of 2011, a 7.

4 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Miyagi and workers were then evacuated from the nearby embattled Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear facility. So, is travel to Miyagi-ken – feasible or foolish? What is there to see or do and is it safe? It’s unlikely an Earthquake the same magnitude will strike again in the next twenty or so years. We can’t enjoy Miyagi-ken just at the moment, but life in Tokyo, the capital of Japan continues as normal.

Whilst re-building takes place, Japan will need and hope to restore its tourism industry and visiting can only help these brave people in the long run.
