Montana Hotels United States

Montana Montana is the fourth largest of the states in the United States (after Alaska, Texas and California) but only the 44th in population, so has the third lowest population density in the United States of America. Situated in the Western United States Montana shares a 545 mile northern border with three provinces of Canada: British Colombia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. To the east Montana shares borders with North Dakota and south Dakota. Wyoming is to the south, and Idaho is to the west. The terrain of the state of Montana is diverse, and demarcated by the Continental Divide which runs a nearly diagonal line through the state from northwest to south central dividing it into distinct eastern and western regions.

The western region is mountainous most of which is part of the Rocky Mountains. About 60% of the state is prairie, part of the Great Plains. Even so, there are isolated mountain ranges east of the Continental Divide covering around a central third of the state.

The Bitteroot Mountains divide the state from Idaho to the west, with the southern third blending into the Continental divide. Between the mountain ranges are many scenic valleys and rivers with many opportunities for tourism and recreation. Also millions of tourists visit the Glacier National Park, the site of the Battle of Little Bighorn, and three of the five entrances to Yellowstone National Park, not to mention Garnet Ghost Town (an 1890s gold mining town in Western Montana).
