Nebraska Hotels United States

Nebraska Nebraska is a midwestern state in the United States of America, situated on the Great Plains. Nebraska is bordered to the north by South Dakota, to the east by Iowa, Missouri is across the Missouri River to the west. The state of Kansa is to the south, Colorado to the southwest and Wyoming to the west. The capital of Nebraska is Lincoln, whilst the largest city is Omaha. Nebraska consists of two land regions: the Dissected Till Plains and the Great Plains.

To the east the state was shaped by glaciers during the Ice Age, leaving behind the Dissected Plains, with the gently rolling hills and home to Omaha and Lincoln. The Great Plains fill almost all of the western part of Nebraska, and has several regions including: Sandhills, Pine ridge, Rainwater Basin and the Wildcat Hills. The plains of Nebraska represent a landmark in the American Dream: the 1862 Homestead Act was a major event in the westward expansion of the US.

The Homestead National Monument is in Beatrice. In the west of the state Scotts Bluff is a prominent landmark marking the Oregon Trail. This 3000 acre national monument consists of large rock formations in the middle of the flat prairie.

The Missouri is also an attraction for visitors – they can visit Ponca, near Valentine to get involved in water activities at the Missouri National Recreation River. The upper reaches of the Niobara River is a premier river for canoeing. Nature enthusiasts will be interested to see the bird migrations along the Platte River, where, during the spring and autumn cranes, waterfowl and a range of other birds can be seen in their millions.
