New York Hotels United States
New York New York is the third most populous state in the northeast of the United States of America. It is bordered to the south by New Jersey and Pennsylvania and to the east by Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont. The state has a sea border with Rhode Island, as well as an international border with Ontario, Canada to the north and west, and Quebec to the north. New York is often called New York State to identify it separately from New York City. At 128400 K sq km it is the 30th largest state by size.
The Great Appalachian Valley encompasses most of eastern New York State and there is Lake Champlain in the north of the valley, with the Hudson river which flows south into the Atlantic Ocean. The Adirondack Mountains and a huge wilderness area lie west of the valley. Most of the southern part of the state is on the Allegheny Plateau rising from the east to the Catskill Mountains.
The state is drained in the west by the rivers and drainage systems of the Allegheny, Susquehanna and Delaware. New York State’s major cities are: Albany (the state capital), New York City, Rochester, Syracuse and Yonkers. In addition to the justly famous and first choice city break for many visitors- New York City, to the east of the state is Long Island with its famous beaches and the resort playground of the Hamptons; just to the north is the Hudson Valley – increasingly famous for its antique shops and architectural sights, the wine producing area of Finger Lakes – and, of course, the spectacle of Niagara Falls.
Outdoor enthusiasts make for the Adirondacks region, where the lush forests and spectacular mountains provide a great backdrop for hiking, and biking, whilst skiing aficionados can visit the Olympic village at Lake Placid.
