Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur Hotels France

Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur or PACA is one of the 22 regions of France. It consists of six departments is southeastern France, having borders to the east with Italy, the Mediterranean Sea and the principality of Monaco to the south. The region of Rhone-Alpes is to the north and Languedoc-Roussillon to the west. The Rhone river marks this western border. Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur (PACA) has six departments : Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Haute-Alpes, Alpes-Maritimes, Bouches-du-Rhone, Var, and Vaucluse.

The largest cities are Marseille, Nice, Toulon and Aix-en-Provence. Provence-Alpes-Cote-d’Azur stretches along the Mediterranean coast and is at the base of the outcrops of the Alpine chain. The southern situation, the adjacent sea, the south-facing aspect, and particularly the screen of the mountains keeping off the cold continental north winds, means that the area (and its visitors) enjoy a high winter temperature as well as the hot dry summer climate.

This wonderful climate allows the slopes to be covered with tropical vegetation, orange and aloe, cactus and eucalyptus and the wonderful colours of bougainvillea. The excellent situation means that visitors can travel from the lemon and mimosa trees of the coast to the mountains in under two hours. Added to this quite extraordinary scenery there are rich historical interests such as Avignon and St Paul de Vence, a fortified hilltop village which also is famous for art galeries and restaurants – and of course, Nice and Cannes are where the beautiful people go – and others go to watch them !.
