Rhode Island is a State in the New England area, quite far north on the eastern seaboard of America. It was the first of the thirteen colonies to declare independence from the United Kingdom and the last to ratify the US Constitution. The state was colonised in 1636 with Roger Williams who had been banished from another area and settled in Narragansett Bay after buying it from the Narragansett tribe.
