Schleswig-Holstein Hotels Germany

Schlesweig-holstein Schleswig-Holstein is the most northerly of Germany’s 16 states. It shares borders to the north with the Syddanmark region of Denmark, the North Sea is to the west, the Baltic Sea to the west and the German states of Lower Saxony, Hamburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to the south. Schleswig-Holstein lies at the bottom of the Jutland Peninsula, between the North and Baltic Seas. There are lowlands in the western part of the state with almost no hills. The North Frisian Islands, together with most of Schlesweig-Holstein’s North Sea coast form the Schlesweig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park.

The Baltic Sea coast in the east has bays, fjords and cliffs. In the eastern part of Holstein there are rolling hills (highest 170m or so) and many lakes. The longest river-besides the Elbe is the Eider, and the Kiel Canal is economically important as it connects the North Sea to the Baltic.

Visitors will enjoy the sandy beaches of the North Sea and Baltic Sea –as well as sail, surf or cycle around the area with its rolling green countryside and forested lakes. The Wadden Sea National Park is a highlight of the west coast, and has the densest bird population in Central Europe. Hundreds of bird species breed in this special habitat, regularly flooded by the tides of the North Sea and the tidal shallows nurseries for young herring.

Visitors can also combine birdwatching with beach holidays on Germany’s only open-sea island, Helgoland.
