Scotland Hotels United Kingdom

The region known as Scotland is made up of the northern part of Great Britain. The Northern Isles and Hebrides are also categorised as a part of Scotland. The capital of Scotland is Edinburgh, not only is Edinburgh the capital of Scotland it is also considered a large European financial centre. Scotland is made up of three geological regions; there are the highlands, the central lowlands and southern uplands. If you prefer a warmer climate the west of Scotland is generally warmer than the east.

On the whole the climate in Scotland is temperamental, expect changes sometimes quite suddenly. Officially Scotland is deemed to have a climate that is considered oceanic. Some places in the highlands can have a lot of snow; Braemar often has up to two months of snow every year.

In the highlands and because of the snow - skiing and snowboarding are a popular attractions. In the less snowy areas cycling and walking through the very picturesque scenes is a real treat. There are many castles throughout Scotland and each one has fascinating history.

One of the most famous is Edinburg h Castle, home to the Scottish crown jewels and the Stone of Destiny, an absolute must see for any tourist in Scotland. Blair Castle is also another popular attraction this being home to the Atholl Highlanders – the last private army in Europe. A very famous attraction in Scotland is Loch Ness, this is the second largest loch in Scotland and is said to be home to ‘Nessie’ the Loch Ness Monster.

If you want beautiful surroundings and heritage galore, visit Loch Ness it has so much to offer. A national park that brings together a lot of what Scotland has to offer is Cairngorms. Expect to find lochs, many rivers, beautiful castles and even parks for the children.
