Sichuan Sheng Hotels China

Sichuan Sheng means “Sichuan Province” and it’s found in the southwest of China. It’s capital is Chengdu. Back in 2008 the area was devastated by an earthquake which caused a high number of schools and homes to be destroyed and there were many deaths. Sichuan Sheng has six world heritage sites within its borders, all of which are highly recommended. Sichuan Sheng is about the same size as California in the United States.

It’s famed for amazing, but hot, spicy food and the wonderful nature reserves that are home to more Pandas than anywhere else in the world. A list of the World Heritage Sites alone will give you more than enough to see and do in Sichuan Sheng. Mount Qingcheng in Dujiangyan is one of the most important centres for Taoism in the whole of China.

Sichuan Sheng is home also to the Yellow Dragon Gully of Huanglonggou, made up of colourful pools surrounded by snow-capped mountains, hot springs and beautiful waterfalls. A trip to Jiuzhaigou National Park or the “Valley of Nine Villages” is a must. It’s a wonderful nature reserve in Sichuan Sheng’s north and contains amazing waterfalls and lakes.

Be sure not to miss the thought-provoking Dazu Rock Carvings in nearby Chongqing municipality. On the western edge of Sichuan Sheng lies China’s holy Buddhist Mount Emei which you have to see at sunrise. Follow that with a trip to the many Chinese temples of nearby Shan.

No trip to Sichuan Sheng would be complete without spending time at the Chengdu Panda Breeding research Base or the Wolong Nature Reserve Sichuan – just two of seven nature reserves - which also house red pandas, snow and clouded leopards. South of Chengdu is the holy Mengding Mountain of Ya’an, where you can enjoy a wonderful Tea ceremony and discover how its produced. When eating out, try the “Dahn dahn mee-an”, noodles in a spicy sauce or opt for Ma La Ji: spicy chicken.

Get through the fire of Sichuan food and it will taste delicious. Immerse yourself in the culture of the land by staying at the Tibet Hotel Chengdu or the Minshan Hotel Chengdu near the antique market. Up market, the Crowne Plaza Hotel Chengdu or the Jinjiang Hotel Chengdu is good, just by the river.

More economical choices might be the Jerry Hotel Chengdu or the Ivy Holiday Inn Chengdu.
